During the mid-1800s the local way of dressing slowly disappeared. Nowadays, the ‘folk’ or ‘jurisdictional district’ costume is worn with fondness on festive occasions such as weddings, baptisms and other formal ceremonies or celebratory occasions. A traditional folk costume, as well as being appropriate attire, always makes you feel nicely dressed up. Even at funerals, it is suitable to wear a traditional costume. "Folk dress" or "folk costumes" promote and preserve our cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship. The term ‘folk dress’ or ‘folk costume’ refers to customary dress that was worn in a particular geographical area, parish, jurisdictional district or part of the countryside.
The traditional summer garment comprising the harvest shift (or chemise) has become increasingly popular and in demand. It is a nice, lightweight, and cool alternative to the heavier traditional costume where the bodice is attached to the skirt.
We have a limited range of costume accessories for sale in our shop. We have accessories for costumes from the Scanian jurisdictional districts as well as for the Swedish National Costume.
